Seller's Description:
VG+ or a Little Better. No Jacket as Expected. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall The original scarce first printing. The binder used a technique of covering the glossy papercover on the hardback boards with plastic and it is what is called "crazed" a little bit. It happens when the binder doesn't get the plastic down tight enough initially. Contents are fine and bright. The cover is less than fine because of the crazing but still looks nice.

Recommended for anyone who is fascinated and/or confused about Precious Opal. Dr. Dowling provides details of the orgins, crystal structure and characteristics of all the precious opal identified in the world at the time of his writing. He puts forth a systematic approach tor uniformly identifying, evaluating and pricing precious opal for dealers and collectors. However, I was unable to find that his recommendation was ever accepted by any gem or mineral society. The book answered all my questions about precious opal and I enjoyed it immensely.
