This book would only be interesting to a very narrow audience.
I personally enjoyed reading this book because the subject of the book, the Menasha Corporation, was headquartered in my hometown, and employed several of my ancestors and their friends.
The book is written in a very accessible manner, and is easy to read quickly. Although many of my ancestors weren?t able to partake of the educational advantages that their labor made possible for me, they could also read through and enjoy the book.
For many years, Menasha Corporation was largest employer in the City of Menasha. Hence, this book would be almost required reading for anyone seriously interested in the history of that northeastern Wisconsin town. The historical pictures of the plant facilities and town alone would be well worth the price of the book.
Having known several people who wrote Masters and Ph.D. theses on some pretty obscure topics, I?m sure that there are people out there who might find the book of academic use. Someone investigating the growth of industry in the upper Fox River Valley of Wisconsin between 1850 and 1950 would be well served to at least acquaint himself with the contents of this book.
However, the book was written by a ?court historian? (coauthor Smith, his father, and grandfather were all past Presidents of the Menasha Corporation) and published by a vanity press. It lacks the objectivity that a more impartial author could bring to the subject.
