The most recent attempt, for instance, at a story of the Mormons by an outsider is little else than an argument, from cover to cover of its more than six hundred pages, against the claims of the Church; and the animus of its author is not even disguised by ordin ary forms. But, indeed, as the reader will perceive, in this respect, I have followed my contentious historical brethren only at a comfortable dog-trot, being satisfied, generally, to let the facts speak for themselves without putting myself out of the way to cast javelins after antagonists.
