A gutsy heroine, a selfish ruler, and unexpected mathematical delights! Don't miss the fold-out spread of sacks and sacks of rice being delivered on the backs of elephants!

My second grade students are just getting an idea of how beautifully numbers can be manipulated and they're all fascinated with the idea of getting rich! This book is a really neat cultural story covering both of those curiousities. They love getting a turn to write each of the numbers on the board as each day the main character gets her "prize." The artwork is terrific and the language is simple but full of voice. Apparently someone else thought it great too as the copy I bought on Alibris last year has disappeared from my classroom! :-)
