As a consequence, there are increasing numbers of patients that experience the cardiac side effects of chemotherapy. The level of cardiotoxicity is variable, depending on the kind of drug used, amalgamation with other drugs, prior mediastinal radiotherapy and the existence of cardiovascular risk factors or history of heart disorders. Early discovery of the patient's tendency to develop cardiotoxicity plays a key role in decreasing morbidity and mortality. It also facilitates more modified therapeutic strategies. Hence, the association and interaction of cardiology and oncology may lead to a decrease in adverse cardiovascular effects.
