The book didn't make it through the mail, but I did read a book by the author's brother recounting their youth and exploits. Based on that book, "Koyukuk", I expect "On the edge of nowhere" to be much better than the average rating I had to give a book that I haven't read.
The books are about the brother's lives in Alaska, as boys becoming men at an early age, learning to survive under harsh conditions as natives had for eons. I now have a .deep respect for the culture that native Alaskan's, including eskimos, developed before our current standards and luxuries.
