'I was covered in blood, but it wasn't mine, so it was okay.' Edward is a hit man. He specialises in monsters. Vampires, shape-shifters, anything and everything. There are people like me, Anita Blake, who do it legally, but Edward doesn't sweat the legalities or, hell, the ethics. He is an equal opportunity killer. I may be one of the few friends that Edward has, but it's like being friends with a tame leopard. It may curl on the foot of your bed and let you pet its head, but it can still eat your throat out...

With a quartet of hitmen (hit people sorry), one of the most powerful and insane vamps in the world, the jaguars and Anita's normal necromantic chaos this novel is one of Laurell K Hamiltons best and my favourite so far.

Oh My God!!
This book is unlike any book I have ever read. It is real and gritty and sees people without the rose colored glasses most people need in order to function in the society we live in. You should read all the Anita Blake books in order to get the complete mind blowing experience, but the book stands by itself quite admirably.
This is a book about Edward. He has been in most of her other books but we get a glimpse inside his soul. I wouldn't let my daughter date him or my son be his friend, but I would trust him with both my life and my death.

great read
I love all the Anita Blake books, but this one was great because you find out more about Edward. I kind of like Edward, even though he is a bad guy, because if nothing else, he is honest. And he's always there when Anita needs him. There are some really violent parts, but one of the things I like about the books is that it isn't drawn out for pages. It's told, and over. If you like vampire books, or even just mysteries, you will love Laurell K. Hamilton and the characters she writes.
