Bis von den Nullerjahren als einer moglichen Zasur gesprochen wurde, sollte es beinahe zwei Jahre dauern. Mit den Anschlagen vom 11. September 2001 wurden gewohnte Sicherheiten erschuttert. Hatte man in den 1990er Jahren noch gedacht, man sei in einer nun endgultig von Amerika dominierten Weltordnung angekommen, die Francis Fukuyama allzu leichthandig mit dem "Ende der Geschichte" gleichsetzte, so waren alle derartigen Thesen und Deutungen mit einem (An-)Schlag obsolet. Waren die Nullerjahre also im Wesentlichen ein Jahrzehnt neuartiger Verunsicherung? Oder dominierten Kontinuitaten, Traditionsuberhange, Fortsetzungen von Entwicklungen, die bereits die 1990er Jahre kennzeichneten?
