Seller's Description:
Very Good in Very Good jacket. First edition. Contemporary gift inscription, corners a bit bumped, a very good plus copy in a very good, edgeworn dustwrapper with a chip in the upper right-hand corner of the front panel. Novel of a repressed woman who sets out on a cruise to discover freedom and life. Basis for the film featuring Bette Davis, Paul Henreid, and two cigarettes, with Claude Rains helping them along. Reportedly Davis, who took then unheard of chances with the role by deliberately gaining weight and foregoing makeup, extensively reworked the original screenplay herself, incorporating more of the novel's dialogue. Though she missed the Oscar, the movie was Davis's most successful film of the decade. A nice, presentable copy of an scarce novel.

Seller's Description:
Fine in Very Good jacket. Book. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Fine copy in very good or better jacket. $2.50 on flap. 1941/1941. Small chip in crown of jacket. Light rubbing to spine margins. Excellent Condition for this very Difficult Book. Great Movie with Bette Davis.
I picked this book up after having been a fan of the Bette Davis film of the same name for years. I must say, it definitely lives up to the movie and vice versa. If you have ever seen the film about a mentally abused young woman in search of herself, you'll want to read this book. It reads EXACTLY like the movie. Ninety-nine percent of the dialogue is the same. There are a few differences, though, such as other characters (namely Lisa Vale's other daughter, Fabia and, I believe, Jerry has another daughter as well) and a difference in Charlotte (she's much more sarcastic in the book). If you're thinking about purchasing this book, I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.
