Being a first-time Renaissance listener, I've found "Novella" to be a highly satisfying album. It's not for everyone, of course, for its appeal targets those who enjoy Classical music. This is the music I put on when I wish to relax and get lost in melody, rhythm and the blend of instruments and voices. I can't imagine hearing them in a live concert, for the loss of acoustics and melodic subtleties would be lost in most concert settings. The flow from one track into the next is as smooth as reading from one chapter into another of a story.
Perhaps it is my desire for escapism, but "Novella" provides that break from routine, the same as when I pick up a book to read. So, don't play this as background to dinner or a bridge party, but when you wish to let your mind float away with the music.
