The experience of several teach ers of English has been drawn upon in assembling the notes, and the result embodies the essential matters in which beginners find most difficulty. An attempt has been made also to include as many as possible of the nicer points which frequently puzzle experienced writers as well as beginners. Finally, every statement has been guarded, so as not to create the false impression that good English is absolutely right or poor English.
