Seller's Description:
Jack Mellott (Photography) Good in Good jacket. Format is approximately 9 inches by 12 inches. 112 pages. DJ has wear and soiling. Profusely illustrated with color photographs. Accompanying the photographs are selected passages and excerpts from the writings and speeches of some of Northwestern's most celebrated professors, administrators and alumni. This portrait of Northwestern is a collage of the many faces of the University. The photographs will guide the reads through familiar paths, into remembered building, and make the reader, presumably an alumni, once more a part of Northwestern activities. The Indian Summer days of Fall Quarter, filled with the color and excitement of a new academic year, com to life on these pages. With the coming of Winter Quarter, you will find yourself remembering both the cold walks to Teach for a lecture and the warmth of faculty firesides. Who can forget the familiar harbingers of Spring Quarter at Northwestern, the purple and white crocus covering the lawn in from of University and Harris Halls. May brings returning alumni home for reunions. Reflecting on June, when the academic year winds down, you will relive the University focus on Commencement. This is Jack Mellot's third book. It is the culmination of a year's worth of journeys to Evanston, where the photographer explored the campus of Northwestern with his camera, to get the feeling of the University. Jack Mellott has been a freelance photographer since 1985 and his assignments have ranged from corporate photography to locations and advertising work. He is a member of the American Society of Magazine Photographers. Northwestern University is a private research university in Evanston, Illinois. Founded in 1851, Northwestern is the oldest chartered university in Illinois and is ranked among the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. Chartered by the Illinois General Assembly in 1851, Northwestern was established to serve the former Northwest Territory. The university was initially affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, but soon grew to be nonsectarian. In 1896, Northwestern became a founding member of the Big Ten Conference, and later joined the Association of American Universities as an early member in 1917. The university grew to be the third largest university in the United States by the turn of the 20th century. The university is composed of eleven undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, which include the Kellogg School of Management, the Pritzker School of Law, the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, the Bienen School of Music, the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Medill School of Journalism, the School of Communication, the School of Professional Studies, the School of Education and Social Policy, and The Graduate School. Northwestern's campus lies along the shores of Lake Michigan in Evanston. The university's law, medical, and professional schools, along with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, are located in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood. The university also maintains a campus in Education City, Qatar and academic centers in Miami, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Past and present Northwestern faculty and alumni have included numerous heads of state, 22 Nobel Prize laureates, 42 Pulitzer Prize winners, 23 MacArthur Fellows, 28 Marshall Scholars, 94 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 16 Rhodes Scholars, 10 billionaires, and 24 Olympic medalists.
