Reading Baldwin's "Nobody knows ..." , forty years after publication has allowed some time to remove the emotional drama that surrounds the issue of race in these United States. Particularly, as it existed during the main moments of the civil rights struggle. The clarity and precision of the writing style are readily apparent. Baldwin's theories, of motives of the individual personalities that are covered in his essays, are well delineated and his rhetorical devices for analyzing the moments are brilliant. My reasons for avoiding Baldwin's work when I was younger are many. However, it is my good fortune to have the opportunity to visit his work now.
