In the present work, questions of pleading and practice are not considered, and, as a general rule, the cases cited are cases of news paper libel heard in American courts. Where English cases are cited, they are, in every instance, believed to be of equal authority in this country. Some seeming and some actual con icts will be found between the decisions of different courts, but this is an inherent difficulty of the subject, and an effort has been made to reduce the difficulty to a minimum.
