An interesting look at the underside of New York. The historic overview is good, and the rest of the book is themed into chapters. What would have given the book a fifth star in my rating is maps - given that the subject is invisible from the surface a few maps would have helped so that I could picture where things are. This is especially the case for a city like New York, where the locations are a mixture of locality names and street names/numbers.
However, that aside this is a fascinating book by someone who is clearly enthralled by the subject, and who writes well. Lots of photos and large format make it a great and detailed volume on what lies beneath Manhattan.
