So erfolgt durch Vermittlung des Nervensystems auf jeden Reiz eine wohlgeordnete Antwort, die als Grundlage der Erhaltung des Lebens angesehen werden kann. Das Nervensystem wird topographisch in einen zentralen Anteil (Gehirn und Ruckenmark) und einen peripheren Anteil (Nerven und kleine Nervenzellanhaufungen = periphere Ganglien) geglie dert. Entsprechend der Verarbeitung von Reizen aus der "AuBenwelt" so wie der Registrierung von "Innenweltzustanden" kann man das Nervensy stem in ein auf die AuBenwelt und ein auf die Innenwelt bezogenes System einteilen. So stellen wir dem cerebrospinalen oder animalischen Nervensy stem das autonome oder vegetative N ervensystem gegenuber. Das cerebrospinale Nervensystem hat die Aufgabe, durch Receptoren Umweltreize wahrzunehmen, sie dem zentralen Nervensystem zuzufUhren und im wesentlichen durch Muskelinnervation in einer bestimmten "Stel lungnahme" zum Umweltsystem zu reagieren. Ein anderer Anteil der reiz aufnehmenden Nervenfasern registriert Blutdruck, SauerstofflC0 - 2 Gehalt, Elektrolyte und osmotische Veranderungen an bestimmten Stell en des Korpers sowie Schmerzen der inneren Organe; sie gehoren dem Innen welt-Nervensystem bzw. autonomen Nervensystem an, das ebenfalls in pe riphere und zentrale Anteile gegliedert ist."
