This is a very readable, interesting look at the Middle Ages. Cahill gives context to its beginnings and then examples -- significant figures -- who light the way back for us to see how our world emerged from that one. I heard his own reading of it on tape, and that was charming. The book version, however, gives illustrations, also worth the trouble.
