This book is generally about the relationship, or lack thereof, between a father and a daughter. The daughter has some resentment toward the father. However, when the father becomes ill, the daughter is going through his things and finds some "souvineers" of his time in world war 2, including a nazi uniform cap. She questions him, but he does not want to reveal the information because he was told never to speak of it again. But, as he becomes more ill, he "forgets he was supposed to forget" and begins to tell of his time in WW2.
To me, this would have been a better book if it had focused more on the artifacts and the stories the father told. The author throws in some tidbits about the OSS and their methods, but they left me confused and wanting to know more. These could have been woven into the story and would make it more interesting.
All in all, I thought this was an OK book. The stories of the father and the stories surrounding the things used by the OSS was exceptional. The relationship between father and daughter could have been less detailed-I feel that this took away from the story, not enhanced it. I would recommend this to friends only after warning them of the interwoven family drama. If someone wanted a book with stories about the OSS in WW2, they would do better to read something else.
