A little known, at least to me and my friends, episode in WWII, Book was informative while it read as a novel and certainly was an eye opener Really sad right up to the end when a glimmer of hope appeared.

OK but....
Hmmm...a little bit hard to review this one. I'm giving it three starts instead of two simply for the reason of highlighting the Lebensborn baby factories of Nazi Germany during WWII. I knew very little about these institutions. I read the book quickly and really had no desire to abandon it. However, for subject matter which was very adult the writing style was a disappointment. It seemed as if it was written for teenagers (except for the subject matter)and I found the foreshadowing statements at the end of each chapter to be very chiche. It was also very predictable at times. I would recommend this novel for those who enjoy historical romances

Gets the heart
It was almost too much. Some novels draw you into their characters with an intensity that leaves you hurting. In this kind of work, it's not enough to draw your characters well. You have to enable the reader to enter and share their emotional world. Which is what happens here. One lives from inside the relationships, the emotional tension, the blocks that eventually melt, and the slow development of personality. Development is what forms the texture of this story--the people are the story. in a situation so dominated by exterior factors, it is not the Nazi machine that moves the plot, but the inner growth of the persons impacted by it.

Twist of Fate
A young girl is sent to her relatives in the Netherlands during WWII. She is half Jewish and circumstances are getting more and more dangerous. One of the family members is a cousin who she resembles very closely. Her cousin becomes pregnant by a German officer who abandons her. Meanwhile her cousins father, arranges for her to go to a maternity home under the Lebensborn program which took Aryan babies away from their mothers to give them to German couples to bring up. Because of a tragedy that occurs, the young girl takes the place of the cousin at the maternity home. The story unfolds from there. I enjoyed this story tremendously. The character development is very good . You really care about them and what happens to them. I would recommend this.
