My Chinese Days is a compelling account of a young American woman doctor--a composite of several such doctors' experiences--in early 20th century China. The description of localities and events is superb. This woman can write! Equally consuming are her reflections on the expanding professional opportunities for young women, and the conflict they can raise between marriage and parenting. Plus ca change... Alsop is an astute and empathic observer of cultural differences and their complexities. I highly recommend this very timely work--written 90 years ago!
