Fresh and Exciting Travelogue
ââ?¬Å"My Baja Snapshot: Hidden Gems, Mishaps and Discoveriesââ?¬Â? by Jo Dibblee is more than a mere travelogue about Baja California Sur, Mexico. Itââ?¬â?¢s about discovering life, joy, and yourself. But yes, it also offers advice on how to explore Baja. You are invited to go along with Jo and Michael on their trip as they start from Canada and dive into a location that combines both nature and history. For example, the Jesuit missions and UNESCOââ?¬â?¢s biosphere reserves. The photos, food, and funny bits make this an all-around well-conceived and well-executed travel guide.
What I like is that the personalities really shine through. They are not Baja experts in the beginning, even though it wasnt their first encounter. They must learn and guess their way on this high adventure, acting on a daring chance to trade it all in for a life and a new home in Mexico.
This is a great companion book to ââ?¬Å"While I Can: Finding Purpose and Legacy in a Distant Land,ââ?¬Â? the more intimate side of their decision to travel to Baja by the same author. She shows great finesse in combining their personal story with travel stories and never forgets that itââ?¬â?¢s to help you learn about and enjoy the area, prompting you to possibly travel there at some point so that you too can soak in the offerings of the people and culture. If youââ?¬â?¢ve ever wanted to strike out for new horizons or start over in a new place, you need to read this book. Itââ?¬â?¢s very inspiring and practical, and full of wit and wisdom.
The best parts of the book are the stories of things not going quite as planned, and ending up being memorable experiences, nevertheless. Living in a small home on wheelsâ"basically, a motorhomeâ"including petsâ"wouldnât be ideal for everyone, but you will be charmed and impressed by how they made it work.
When it comes to the places to visit and things to do, the images play a big part in drawing you to this place. It would also help if you knew some of the Spanish language, or at least took something with you that you could refer to, like a book or an app. There are also common and important phrases offered in this book.
Jo Dibbleeââ?¬â?¢s short work is full of heart, which reflects her humanitarian nature. Each section has tips and insider advice, sayings or phrases, and lessons learned. You can skip around in the book as there are a lot of attention-grabbing entries, from food and animal photography to landscapes. For a road trip that will have you longing for Baja, you must experience ââ?¬Å"My Baja Snapshot: Hidden Gems, Mishaps and Discoveriesââ?¬Â? by Jo Dibblee.
