"As avant-garde novelist Antony Lamont struggles to write a 'new wave murder mystery,' his frustrating emotional and sexual life wreaks havoc on his work-in-progress. As a result, his narrative (the very book we are reading) turns into a literary 'stew,' an uproariously funny melange of journal entries, erotic poetry, parodies of all kinds, love letters, interviews, and lists--as Hugh Kenner in 'Harper's' wrote, 'for another such virtuoso of the List you'd have to resurrect Joyce'"

Seller's Description:
Near Fine in Very Good jacket. First edition. Quarto. Light of sunning along the topedge, pages lightly toned, near fine in a very good dust jacket with tiny nicks and tears mostly at the spine ends, and light toning on the flaps. Signed by the author on the front fly. Considered by many Sorrentino's finest and funniest novel, a postmodernist tale of an avant-garde novelist slowing going insane as works to finish his latest book, a "new wave murder mystery." Sorrentino served an editor of the literary magazines *Kulchur* and *Neon*, the latter with his college friend Hubert Selby Jr. Later he helped Selby's with his novel, *Last Exit to Brooklyn* and was a contributing editor on *The Autobiography of Malcolm X* while at Grove Press. Sorrentino later taught at a number of colleges including Sarah Lawrence, Columbia, The New School for Social Research, and Stanford, where he taught future Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Jeffrey Eugenides.
