He's certainly got the technical equipment for it, with an impressive ability to sort outlines in music that from almost anyone else would be a wall of sound. It serves him well here in the more extreme variations in the second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111, and for those who like controlled versions of that giant variation set rather than looser and more ecstatic ones, they'll find Tanski's one of the better ones around. "Controlled" is the operative word throughout, however, and listeners should sample some of the other tracks to know what they're getting here. The Mozart Piano Sonata in C minor, K. 457, generally taken as one of Mozart's "Beethovenian" works, is hardly that here, with everything kept within tight bounds of dynamics, tempo, and phrasing.
