These are almost three- (or two-) movement symphonies, and they hang together nicely with the piano concertos. All the music is from the early part of Mozart's career, and Bavouzet catches not only the exuberance of these concertos but the way the first three work out aspects of the vast expansion of the form that would coalesce in the Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major, K. 271, Mozart's first true landmark in the form. Bavouzet has applied heavy ornamentation in some of the earlier recordings in the series, but here it's dialed back a bit, and everything seems spontaneous yet restrained.
