It is one of five concertos for the lira organizzata, a bizarre hybrid of portable organ and lyre-like stringed instrument. The works were written in 1786 for the King of Naples, who enjoyed playing unclassifiable contraption, but despite having such high-powered patrons the instrument fell into neglect.
