Though not in the same league as the contemporary Philharmonia or London Symphony orchestras, the Glyndebourne Festival Orchestra's brightness of tone, tightness of ensemble, and tautness of tempos is still highly appealing. But most of the reason is the stellar cast. The men are very good: Sesto Bruscantini's Figaro is robustly vigorous and Franco Calabrese's Count Almaviva is brusquely imperious.
