solid and dark
Having been a fan in my younger days of many of the beats portrayed in MOVE UNDER GROUND as characters in a fictional setting, I was at first a bit critical of this concept working around this Lovecraftian mythos. I was quite surprised by the way Mamatas has handled this. The overall mood feels full of dispair and eventually dread as the "old one" invades the world and the mutations start to occur. I particularly enjoyed the casting of Cassidy and Kerouac(as well as Bill Burroughs to what could have been a bigger part) as the reluctant heros. My only negative is like Lovecraft, in this day and age, it does tend to move slowly in spots but this works within the sense of smothering doom. Definitely worth a read.
