Best cook book ever published!
I bought, not just one but, two copies of Mother's In The Kitchen, the cookbook published by La Leche League Intl back in the 1971, edited by Roberta Johnson with wonderfully homey illustrations by Sue Blankinship. I purchased my own copy around 1980 when I had my first son and had turned to the local branch of LLL for support and companionship. I can't tell you how many recipes I have tried from this book full of mother-tested and approved delectables, but every one was a hit in my house, as well as at those covered-dish dinners and school bake sales. Many recipes have hints on the children getting involved in the process, and I am proud to say I have three grown sons who will never go hungry, are in demand for parties or gatherings, and often out-cook their girlfriends! One even works in the restaurant business and loves it. By far, the most favorite recipe from the book is the Molasses Ginger Snaps on page 151. This was such a hit for those school birthday treats (the boys made them themselves) that I had to calculate the ingredients to make a quadruple batch! This is a rare book to find (the 1971 version), although LLL has come out with many more cookbooks since. If you can capture the 1971 version, it's a real keeper.
