This author has made dozens of books for the elelmentary school age group, but also for the rest of us! The "Hotel Bruce" was my intro, and that took me back to this original book featuring Bruce, the patient but long-suffering bear. The art is just this side of loony, and very colorful, (really suitable for framing if prints were out there). The humor is by turns wry and off-the-wall, just the thing for kids... but none of are immune. Try his Scholastic Press interview (2022) with his two big oofy dogs napping behind him on the couch, a very good explanation of how his art works with narrative, and not just for kids!
