Seller's Description:
Very Good. VG+. Bound in publisher's blue cloth, with extensive gold stamping. Folio, 38 cm. 111 pages, [60] leaves of plates: illustrations. Hardcover. Very good binding and cover. Clean, unmarked pages. Illustrated in a series of photographs, specially taken by E. Dockree; & measured drawings of the more important neo-classic buildings, with descriptive text. Includes a signed letter presenting the book from the architect, Charles Gourlay, B. Sc. (Professor of Architecture at Glasglow). The letter is hand written on his letterhead to the architect William J. Smith (later also an architectural professor at Glasgow). "Of Gourlay McGibbon wrote that 'the claims of his calling as a teacher obsessed him to the exclusion of recreation or hobby; he was indeed the most conscientious of instructors, patient and painstaking to a fault...never too robust, in later life his health was indifferent'. William James Smith, later Professor, called Gourlay 'Pa' though A G Lochhead was too respectful to use the nickname...Gourlay died after an operation on 30 June 1926, survived by a daughter, his wife having died six years earlier in 1920. A memorial was erected in St Paul's Outer High Church, designed by William James Smith."-Glasgow Institute of Architects, DSA Architect Biography). This is an oversized or heavy book, that requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
