A conservative radio host and aspiring politician experiences an acute crisis of conscience after losing his memory and experiencing life among the less fortunate in this thought-provoking drama. Thomas Bach (Victor Browne) likes to think of himself as a straight shooter. His right-wing radio show is a big hit among Minneapolis Tea Partiers, and recently he's announced a plan to retire from radio and take a shot at a seat in the U.S. Senate. Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles to iron out the kinks in his campaign, however, Thomas becomes the victim of a violent assault that robs him of his memory. As a result, the wayward political hopeful forgets he's a diabetic, falling seriously ill as he seeks shelter in skid row. Over the course of the next week, Thomas becomes a true member of the homeless community, rediscovering the meaning of compassion as he receives help and in turn helps others. Later, as Thomas' memory returns, he finds himself at a crucial crossroads: Does he parlay his experience into a triumphant campaign story that's sure to win votes and launch a successful political career, or does he finally admit that he's been wrong all along and use his newfound wisdom to enact genuine change? I find it fascinating when filmmakers take the leap from traditional storytelling and film technique to create something memorable. Monday Morning moved me to the point where images from the movie stayed in my head for hours afterwards (they're still in my head). These are not gentle representations of what our homeless population goes through on a daily basis. These are in-you-face and, for some, offensive. Yet they are real and they ring true - as artistic works should. Nat Christian's writing and directing come from a place of complete passion and truth and it is crafted with skill and imagination. His actors starting with Victor Browne all give very realistic performances in this small yet epic tale about a man who is on the rise, and then must dwell with the meek of the earth. What he sees and learns leads him to make a decision that caught me by surprise. Great filmmaking.
