I am a Do-It-Yourselfer that likes to explore the boundary of my abilities. I was able to install my own Goodman split-system, forced-air heat pump using this book as a reference. My primary learning tool was the YouTube video, but this volume was my back-up for more in-depth knowledge.
The actual hardware (outside unit, inside unit, thermostat, and misc. items) cost $4ooo. Other needed things like nitrogen gas, 410a refrigerant, this book, and HVAC tools cost me $2600. The down side is that the job took me months. We made it through the Atlanta summer with a bedroom window AC unit and fans throughout the house. But the experience was worth it. The heat pump is working great, and I now have a profound understanding and appreciation of HVAC. This text gave me the confidence to succeed.
