Nor is the only fanciful tradition connected with this hill, or the site of the mosk of Tayloon. Noah's ark is reported to have rested at the very spot where a Nebklftree still grows, within a ruined enclosure in the court of the mosk; and the name of Gebel O'skoor is be Which intersecting part, after all, is not on the principle of an arch. + This word is pronounced with a W in Arabic, and with a V in Turkish. This is noticed by Aboolfeda, and other Arab historians. 9 1 had supposed the word Kottaeea to refer to the quarries there, but am indebted to Lord Munster for its real import as applied to this place. The Moslems commemorate this sacrifice by killing a ram on the Ecd. They say it was Ishmael for whom the ram wa- substituted, and not Isaac. H Khamnus Nabecii, Forsk. lieved to have been given it, in consequence of the thanksgiving he there offered to the Deity for his rescue from the perils of the flood. The Ezher was originally founded by Goher (Joher) el Kaed, the general of Moez, about the year 970; but that which is now seen is of a later date, having been subsequently rebuilt, and considerably enlarged. Each part bears an inscription relative to the era, and authors, of its successive restorations, to the year 1762. It is of considerable size, and ornamented by numerous columns, which give a lightness and grace to the interior.
