Mystery and History!
Mistress of the Art of Death is a great read! Author Ariana Franklin leaves you guessing till the end. There are some unexpected twists and turns to the story which add to the reader's enjoyment. This book has some of the flavor of Umberto Eco's Name of the Rose. If you liked that book or movie, Mistress of the Art of Death is definitely for you!

A good mystery
This is a first class mystery story set in medieval Cambridge, England. There have been a series of horrid murders of children, and the King, Henry 11, through his cousin, the King of Sicily, arranges for a forensic specialist (a woman...slightly unbelievable, but clever) to come and try and solve the problem.. The writing is lively and literate, and the plot is intricate and, once you accept the premise, compelling. Both my husband and I enjoyed the book....not a usual occurance in our household.

Gripping and Scary
Ariana Franklin brings medieval England to life through her use of imagery. The story itself is gripping and very chilling. However, she avoids the trap of overwhelming the reader by injecting some humor. Very well-developed characters and plot. A must-read for any mystery fan.
