Excerpt from Miss. Lily's Voyage Round the World: Undertaken in Company With Masters Paul HE papa and mamma of Miss Lily have been obliged to start suddenly for Paris. They have left her, and Masters Paul and Toto, her two cousins, who have lost their parents, at their pretty estate where they pass their summers, in charge of Miss Dora, their English governess, and of old J eannettc, the cook. Everything has gone on finely at first, but now Miss Dora has fallen ill, and the children, no longer occupied with their tasks, pass the time in playing, rambling in the park, and reading. Master Paul, who is going to be a sailor, has been reading histories of voyages, and Miss Lily, Robinson Crusoe. These stories, which they have understood only imperfectly, as they are not precisely adapted to children of their ago (miss Lily being only seven, and Master Paul not eight years old), have turned their heads. They talk of nothing but voyages; they dream of nothing but desert islands.
