Cari Taylor-Carlson began her post-college life as an assistant buyer at The White House, an elite San Francisco department store. She followed that misguided career move with several office jobs, but soon knew the nine to five routine was not her dream. After a 10-year gap and four children, she taught environmental education at the Schlitz Audubon Center and founded the children's programs at the Boerner Botanical Garden. When she found her passion, adventure travel, she started a business, Venture West, and for 32 years guided hiking and backpacking trips around the world. In the 1990s, she started the Milwaukee Walking and Eating Society , a group dedicated to exploring Milwaukee's neighborhoods and ethnic restaurants. Cari has written for many publications and currently reviews restaurants for Urban Milwaukee and Riverwest Currents . She lives in the Brady Street neighborhood. Milwaukee Walks, An Insider's Guide to Historic Neighborhood Walks and Hidden Hikes is her sixth book about Milwaukee. In this book she taps into her 52 years in the city to introduce readers to historic neighborhoods, riverside walks, scenic vistas, and the unexpected discoveries you encounter when you take a walk.
