This was about five months after the journal had published the last of seven sermons that Daniel had contributed during 1877. This newly translated work of Owen's serves up a new insight into his north Welsh Methodist milieu, and lets us look through his eyes and see caricatures of village life. Owen's satirical observations earned him the rather flattering sobriquet of the Welsh Dickens, and this work certainly expanded his audience where he established his ability to capture characters.
