Very Good. Three volumes, original black and red wrappers. Text in French. Vol. I: " Ma jeunesse orgueilleuse 1865-1909" (1942); Vol. II "Mes audaces-Agadir...1909-1912" (1943); Vol. III: "Clairvoyance st force d'ame dans les epreuves 1912-1950" 1947). Vols 2 and 3 are near fine with some light toning to the spines, Vol. 1 has some soiling and a stain to the front wrap and a gift inscription in Fench on the front free endpaper; some stray pencil marks in the margins. Joseph Caillaux (1863-1944) was a French politican and leader of the French Radical Party. He served as Prime Minister for six months beginning in June, 1911 and secretly negotiated a consiliatory agreement with Germany without the knowledge of the President (forcing his resignation). He was the leader of the Peace Party during World War I. He was tried and convicted of treason and served three years in prison followed by exile from France. Once allowed to return he was active in left wing governments in the 20s. The final volume of his memoirs was published posthumously in 1947.
