The editor must have sent out a call for really weird stories. The first story is about an adolescent who murders his hated stepsisters, then goes over to visit a buddy and have sex with him. Sounds like something you want to read? Well, if so, go on to the other tales here, which are at best Gothic, at worst simply trying too hard and failing. Felice Picano will wow you with his knowledge of geology of southern California, but you really could do better by reading an appropriate geology book. The best story, by Alex Jeffers, is also weirs, and apparently an extract of a three-volume trilogy. But even it is not all that good, trying as it does to cram lots of Turkish culture into a short story. At least some (but not all) of the characters in that story seem real. Amaze yourself with how bad an anthology can be, and then throw the book away. Don't give it to a friend. Maybe give it to someone you dislike.and don't want to see again.
