He was a polished scholar, and his literary productions are of enduring merit, his Journal being ranked with Horace Walpole's "Letters," and Boswell's "Johnson," and his best production, the "Appeal to Men of Reason and ReHgion," being famous for its clear, forceful English and apt logic. "Wesley's short, packed, monosyllabic sentences are a perfect medium for the swiftest logic the human brain can shape, and they reflect some of the loftiest emotions the human soul can know."
