Seller's Description:
First edition. 12mo.128 pp. Illustrated from photographs and line drawings, plates. Includes a 70-page history of the community, a 30-page memoir in verse, a sketch of the Cahaba Rifles of the 5th Alabama Infantry with a very detailed roster, written by Capt. Charles Pegues, describing war incidents for each member of the company, and a 4-page "church history." Laid in is an autograph letter from the author (8vo, 4 pp.; 8 March 1929 from Montgomery) to Alabama book collector and historian Peter Brannan, inviting him to a meeting of the Cahaba Memorial Association and giving news of friends. Dornbusch II, 31. Though widely held in research libraries, this work seems to be missing from those in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Very good. Original gilt-stamped dark green cloth. (9099).
