Robert Stephen Hawker, M.A: Sometime Vicar of Morwenstow, in the Diocese of Exeter Mos'f conscious am I that I have but the slenderest claims to put together such brief Memorials of a respected and venerated friend as were either in my own possession, or have been kindly supplied by his various relations, in the pages which follow. Had the latest event of Mr. Hawker' 8 life not been commented on in some of the Radical newspapers with a bitterness, a violence of words, and a literary rudeness happily not often experienced, I should probably not have planned this volume, - the expansion of a slight Memoir from my pen, which appeared in the Morning Post of September 8, 1875.
