Not Stated. Good Only. A mixed, early edition of this biography regarding noted Romantic poet and translator, Alexander Pope. An uncommon biography as it was unauthorized. It is believed that this work was actually written by Edmund Curll under a pseudonym. With volume I being a first edition of 1745 and volume II being published in 1754. Both volumes are illustrated, with a frontispiece and seven plates to volume I. To volume II there is a frontispiece and five plates. Of the plates mentioned to the title page of volume II, those present are the frontispiece and the portraits of Lord Burlington, John Gay, Dean Swift, Duchess of Marlborough and Mrs Martha Blount. Red and black title page to volume II. The pages are generally bright to both volumes In full leather bindings. Externally, sound with evidence of some repair to joints. Heavy rubbing to the spines and extremities. Front hinge and joint to volume II is detached but present. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the preliminary leaves of volume I. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Occasional scattered spotting to pages. Good Only.
