Good. No Jacket. 1822, First Edition. 174 pp. Hardcover, 12mo. (3.5 x 6 inches). Full calf binding; gilt bands, lacking title label. Reprints 9 letters from Eliot to the Hon. Robert Boyle. Front board held by one tie only; the rear board is attached by both ties. Gilt bands on spine have mostly faded away. Light browning to the pages but they are not brittle. Ownership signature of John Allyn on the title page; short note from 1834, in ink, on the fly leaf. Clean text. Scarce in the marketplace and institutions. Not in Howes, and not to be confused with HOWES W-530 (Wilson, 'The Life of John Eliot') that was published 6 years later in Edinburgh. Last appeared at auction in 1971.
