Some persons, when they leave their own country, seem to think themselves at liberty to dispense with the observance of its institutions, and. because they have not a church to go to, neglect the duties of the Sabbath altogether. But God commands us to keep it holy; and wherever you are, the injunction is imperiously obligatory, and cannot be disobeyed but at the risk of incurring the penalty of His just indignation and chastisement. What! shall man, who receives all his days from God, refuse to give Him one day in seven? Never suffer yourself to be seduced, by the contagion of bad example, into the neglect of its sacred and appropriate duties; but consecrate it to God, as it ought to be, avoiding usual amusements and secular occupations and studies, and employing it in prayer, self-examination, the perusal of the Scriptures and other religious books.
