Like so many CRR efforts, it's a breakup song, but it's unclear whether frontman Daniel Wylie has moved on to a new paramour or if he's simply singing the praises of folkie Melanie of "Brand New Key" fame -- the narrative ends with a shrugging "What could I do?," which could explain away Wylie's helplessness or merely his inability to write coherent, clever lyrics. For all that, "Melanie" is still great -- not everyone can be Bob Dylan, you know?
