August Scherneckau, a foriegn born young man, offered himself as a Union Volunteer during the Civil War. His detailed diary gives us a unique look at numbing, sometimes seemingly pointless marches. His upbringing and education gave him an advantage in recording the courage as well as the foibles of his contemporaties.
This book is a great addition to history buffs' library of the Civil War record.
