Man Eaters of Kumaon is the best known of Corbett's books, one which offers ten fascinating and spine-tingling tales of pursuing and shooting tigers in the Indian Himalayas during the early years of this century. The stories also offer first-hand information about the exotic flora, fauna, and village life in this obscure and treacherous region of India, making it as interesting a travelogue as it is a compelling look at a bygone era of big-game hunting.

Seller's Description:
Good. Size: 8x5x0; Jim Corbett was every inch a hero, something like a "sahib" Davy Crockett: expert in the ways of the jungle, fearless in the pursuit of man-eating big cats, and above all a crack shot. Brought up on a hill-station in north-west India, he killed his first leopard before he was nine and went on to achieve a legendary reputation as a hunter. Corbett was also an author of great renown. His books on the man-eating tigers he once tracked are not only established classics, but have by themselves created almost a separate literary genre.

I found this book in a garbage can on the last day of High School in 1965. I took it home and read it cover to cover. It was so fascinating that I couldn't put it down. It is a must read for anyone interested in the story of man-eating tigers and other animals. I remember there also was a man-eating crocodile, and a pair of man-eating lions in Africa too. It has been a very long time since I read this book, and I really want to read it again!

One facinating book!
This book is an amazing look into the way hunting was pursued in the past. I enjoyed this book very much. It is full of action and a true life hero. Not only was this man brave against impossible odds, but Jim Corbett also had a true love for the people and nation of India. This book would be a jewel in any collector's crown.

The Classic Hunting Book
Man-eaters of Kumaon is the classic hunting book. Jim Corbett?s vivid narrative makes one feel as if walking next to him as he treks in the Himalayan foothills, or feel the nervous tension as he pulls the trigger after months of relentless pursuit.
The series of several true stories describe Jim Corbett?s pursuit of man-eating tigers in the Himalayan foothills. His powerful and detailed narrative make the stories full of adventure, and often have the reader turning pages furiously as he stalks the tigers over vast territories, often walking several miles every day. His through knowledge of the wildlife, and how tigers and other animals behave make it a high-stakes hide-and-seek game.
But there?s more than adventure in the books ? Corbett describes the villages and everyday life and the beautiful mountains he walks through. He also takes the time to explain why and how tigers turn man-eaters, which are not their natural prey. It is clear that while he is hunting the tigers, his also has a lot of admiration and respect for the majestic beasts.
This book is a must read for its language and style, which is almost considered a genre of writing in its own. It?s a quintessential introduction to the region if you are planning to hike in or visit the Kumaon or Garhwal areas in the Indian Himalaya.
