This 1951 book by Louis Bromfield has a main character along the lines of T.V. series: Madmen. Well written about a middle age guy in an unhappy marriage and bank job (like Yates' Revolutionary Road). Wolcott looks himself in the mirror and starts asking tough questions....like Who am I? And it's not an easy process being conscious for the first time. Not an unexamined life. Interesting read and not yet found the public.
