Lydia Pasternak Slater lived successively in Russia, Germany and England, and wrote in all three languages. Her poetry is largely lyrical, occasionally humorous and always original and striking. She also wrote a number of short stories and later in life became widely known as a translator of Boris Pasternak's poems.
